I Am Being Bullied by a Teacher – What Can I Do? – Easy Read

If you are being bullied, it can be hard to know what to do about it. This is even harder when you are being bullied by someone you are supposed to be able to trust, such as a teacher.

We have put together five tips to help you decide what to do when being bullied by a teacher.

1. Tell Someone You Trust

When going through a stressful situation like bullying, it can be very stressful and you need to tell someone about it. This could be a friend, another teacher, a parent / guardian / learning mentor, or another trusted relative / family friend. You can also talk to us here at Ditch the Label for advice and support.

If someone is doing things which threaten your safety such as giving out your personal information, contact the police or a responsible adult immediately.

2. Ask For Help – You Are Not Alone

This is so important because you may not know what to do when being bullied, and someone else will likely know exactly what to do. Even if you don’t want help, it is important to tell others as this will make you feel better and help to reduce stress. If you don’t, the stress can negatively affect many areas of life, including how we feel, our self-esteem and performance in school.

3. Keep A Record Of What Is Happening

It is important to keep details of what happened like, what was said, the time, date, who said it and who witnessed it. This is because if you decide to report it, it provides an accurate record of what has happened.

You can report it by speaking to another teacher. If this doesn’t solve it, then you can tell a Senior Teacher such as a Head of Year / Department, Assistant Head Teacher or Head Teacher.

You could also read your school’s Anti-Bullying Policy which may give you help on how to report bullying. This may be available on the school’s website, or you can ask the school office for a copy. Ask a friend to get these for you if it makes you feel more comfortable.

4. Talk To Us About The Bullying

We are always here for those who have been impacted by bullying. If you or anyone you know needs help, please do not hesitate to get help from our mentors in our support community here. We can support you and help you know what you can do to get help.

5. You Are Brave

No one deserves to be bullied – by being brave and seeking help, you are taking the steps necessary to stop the bullying and to make sure it doesn’t happen to other people.
